Summer is for the Kids

If you have been around here at all, you know I am a teacher. A teacher with my summers “off”.

During the summer I get to be a Stay at Home Mom for a few months.

As the days of full time daycare come to a close and I see that I will, inevitably, be home with a three year old and a 3 month old, I do start to panic a little bit.

But this summer, I have a little list of things we can do…stuff to keep us from having all out tantrums of boredom around here.

First, the almost-three-year-old is getting potty trained. Ok, that is not exactly fun, but it will DEFINITELY be an adventure and NOT boring.

We have some fun adventures planned too.

Next week we are going to the zoo.  We went last year too, but this year, we are traveling a bit further (over an hour drive) to a bigger zoo. With giraffe feeding. Oh yes, it will be epic.

And it will wear him right out.

We also live near Lake Michigan, so this summer we  plan to hit the beach a bit more than last year. Of course, if we don’t feel like battling the crowds at the state park, my sister-in-law has a man-made beach in her subdivision we can visit too.  I think this might be easier with a little baby in tow.

Since Eddie has proven in past summers that he is a sand-eater, the pool is also a great alternative.

Luckily, my mother-in-law has a pool we can use anytime we want.

Since Eddie is now at an age where other adventures can be fun, I am hoping to check out our local Children’s Museum with him as well as the Fredrick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. He LOVES the outdoors and nature, so I think this could be super fun.

Of course we can’t afford to pack up and explore the world EVERY DAY, so we have to find some at home stuff to do too.

We have two different sized blow-up pools that we play in, a clubhouse, and various bikes and riding toys.

We have sidewalk chalk and bubbles.

We have a sprinkler and a freezer full of popcicles.

We have an ice cream maker.

We have crayons and play dough and matchbox cars and a train set.

And if all else fails, I have pinterest.

This summer is either going to be super busy and fun, or an epic headache.

I’ll report back at the end of August.

What do you do with your kids during the summer to keep everyone busy?
