President Obama ended the war in Iraq and is ending the war in Afghanistan on schedule. The overall threat from Al-Qaeda has been greatly diminished; Osama bin Laden is dead as is Muammar Gaddafi, both taken out on Barack Obama’s watch. This past week the second in command of Al-Qaeda in Yemen was believed to have been killed. That was the mantra in Charlotte at the DNC last week. Those are facts and the Obama administration should be proud of their foreign affairs accomplishments.
George W. Bush’s only legal objective was the capture or the killing of Osama bin Laden and ending the threat of Al-Qaeda attacking America, American military or American interests in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. He did neither. Bush turned away from the objective and allowed bin Laden to walk free so the neo-cons could fleece the nation out of billions in the form of defense contracts given to friends of the Bush administration — some with no bids or auditing. The party of small government out spent every administration since Nixon, spending billions on the invasion of Iraq and the subsequent nation building in both Afghanistan and Iraq all on the all mighty national debt. The ‘party of austerity’ was not so austere in spending money the country did not have, to the tune of $2 billion a week — all on the country’s credit card.
This past weekend Mitt Romney criticized the President and the GOP for agreeing to the automatic defense cuts that will go into effect at the end of the year. The Defense Department will shave $10 billion over ten years as part of the government’s attempt to reduce the deficit and national debt. The Defense Department has seen an increase in spending not seen since the Vietnam War, rising $100 billion in the last 13 years. The 2012 budget is $553 billion the same as Ronald Reagan’s 1986 defense budget.
The Military Industrial Complex has had control of the American Congress and White House since I was born, nothing has changed, and the threat level is the same today as it was in 1951, slim to none. Yesterday marked the 11th anniversary of the only attack on Continental America since 1812 by a foreign entity yet, since I was a little boy, I and the American people have been led to believe America was going to be attacked at any moment from Russia, China, Cuba, Korea, Iraq, Iran and the list goes on and on.
America spends more money, on the defense of the land, than all the other countries of the world combined and sells more weapons than any other country. The Military Industrial Complex needs war to survive and they have survived well. Already they are pushing back on sequestration stating their case via surrogates in the form of Mitt Romney who has stated Obama’s cutting of the defense will threaten America.
The Bush Administration used the threat of another terrorist attack and fuelled the hatred of Muslims in America with rhetoric and lies and in so doing created the atmosphere of fear and anxiety for the American people all in defense of their illegal wars and imperialistic tendencies.
Last night in Benghazi the American Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other diplomats were killed in an attack on the American Consulate. These attacks were carried out with militants using rocket held grenades and automatic weapons, the militants excuse for the attack, was a defaming film about the Prophet Muhammad by yet another misguided American who has put all Americans out of country in jeopardy by his intolerance and disrespect of the Muslim religion. Mitt Romney using the attack for political purposes accused President Obama of treason and made inaccurate statements about the attacks and statements by the State Department
The American people are tired of war, and they are tired of American imperialism which feeds the militant mind with hate for America and the American people.
