Wisconsin Elects Tammy Baldwin — Becomes First Openly Gay Senator

More history has been reported during tonight’s election results. In addition to Elizabeth Warren’s Senate win in Massachusetts which makes her the first female senator from Massachusetts, Tammy Baldwin won the Wisconsin Senate race which makes her the first openly gay senator.

Ms. Baldwin is considered to be one of the most liberal candidates to run for office this season. With this defeat of former governor Tommy Thompson, she will replace Senator Herb Kohl.

Tammy Baldwin is known for her adamant opposition to the Iraq war, and her co-sponsorship of  bills proposing articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

  1. I was so proud to now be one of 10 states (MD) allowing Marriage Equality. It’s good to see the stigma lessened over time. Hopefully we will get to a point where the need to praise something like this will be unnecessary because it is widely accepted.
