John Boehner is no longer orange but is now oh, so blue. As you probably know, Mr. Boehner is the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the legislative body he leads is the only one empowered by The Constitution to initiate bills to raise revenue. Mr. Boehner is blue because his fervent hope that President Obama would have been defeated in his bid for a second term has been dashed.
But why is Boehner Blue, really? It’s because he doesn’t want the Bush-era tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy to expire at the end of next month? They’re due to expire — and he knows that in President Obama he has a worthy foe with a renewed mandate who will try his best to make certain that not only will the tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy expire, but he might even attempt to raise the so-called top marginal rate (the tax rate charged on the highest tier of income) back to Clinton-era levels of 40%, let alone the Eisenhower-era rate of over 90%.
To help Mr. Boehner remain blue, you might consider signing this petition, in support of which this drawing was commissioned, to urge President Obama to allow the Bush-era tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy to expire.
