Understanding the Need to Take Time off to Reflect

It’s summer and half the year is already over. Days tend to pass very quickly when one is busy with work or  taking care of kids. Sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming as there are so many things to do on a daily basis. You can get mentally and physically exhausted by the end of the day. It is a never-ending vicious cycle and you may feel that you have worked yourself into a rut. How, then, can you get yourself rejuvenated before facing the next day’s battles? Is it even possible?

Like the battery for a cell phone we, too, need to be recharged when the energy level falls low. Many times we do not know that we are running low until we suffer a breakdown. By that time it may be too late for us to regain our sanity and we need to seek professional help to get our lives back on track.

Actually, there is something that you can do on a daily basis which doesn’t need a lot of your time.

5 minutes

Yes, only 5 minutes of your time…that’s all it takes for you to reflect and focus on what you need to accomplish before you start off each day. Before you head of to bed…5 minutes…to reflect on how your day has gone — the good and bad — and plan on how to make more efficient and fulfilling use of your time the next day.

When one indulges in reflection, thoughts are focused; it’s easier to internalize what works and doesn’t work for you. You get a better understanding of how you function physically and mentally. You are more in tune with yourself so you know your own limits and you learn what is your optimal functional level.
