Congressman Joe Barton (R-Texas) stated that harnessing wind power will make the earth hotter because it will make the wind slow down. This is not the first time members of the Grand Ole Party have made absolutely astonishing statements when it come to science. The Party of No is the party of No because they know nothing.

I could go on and on about their science-denying behavior and statements. One after another the elected members of the nation’s minority party have proven to the world that they do not have a grasp of science or a grip on reality.  I have heard Republican politicians and others state that science is ‘guess work’ — someone’s opinion that cannot be proven. That is an interesting concept coming from many people who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible, that the earth was made by god in 6 days and Moses parted the Red Sea.  They believe evolution means humans came from monkeys, as if  one day a pregnant ape just happened to give birth to a human baby. They don’t understand the concept of change over millions and millions of years because they believe the earth is only 6000 years old.  They discredit what they can not understand and when you look at the state of the country, they really do not understand much of anything about the vast number of people living hand to mouth every day because of the GOP’s ideology, policies and obstructionism.

Social Safety NetIn the 1930s when President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced Social Security, the Republicans fought it and denounced it as communism. Income inequality during that time was at the greatest disparity in the history of the republic. Today, the income inequality between CEOs and workers is at the greatest levels since then. Prior to Social Security many senior citizens lived in poverty; the social safety net lifted millions of people out of poverty and created a safety net for seniors all across America. The Republicans of then fought tooth and nail, yelled and screamed and took Social Security and Roosevelt to court saying that Roosevelt was a dictator who had no right to take money from workers and the Act was unconstitutional. We all know how that turned out:  America loves Social Security, and if not for Congress raiding the fund in the amount of $3 Trillion dollars it would be a very solvent institution and with some tweaking can be solvent for the next 150 years or so.The Republicans of 80 years ago are the same Republicans of today, except today they are on steroids, fueled by an influx of Jim Crow Dixiecrats and fortified by billionaires.

Many people believe race has much to do with the Republican stand against the Affordable Care Act and hatred for Barack Obama. Considering the ACA was developed by the Heritage Foundation, a  conservative institution, and brought to life by Mitt Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts, it is hard to disagree. But part of it is the GOP’s disdain for setting in motion anything that will be a benefit for the vast majority of the American people. They are having this fight in Washington because just like Social Security, Republicans are afraid the American people will like it and if the people like it, it will stay, just like Social Security.

The radical side of the ever splintering GOP, the Tea Party Republicans are behind the shutdown of the federal government and they could not be happier. They are George Wallace standing in the doorway of the University of Alabama defying segregation. They are the racist who flung racial slurs at the Little Rock Nine. They are the closed-minded, bible thumping, science denying Tennesseans of Dayton who arrested John Scopes in what is now the famous  Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925.  Their chest is all puffed out like gorillas in the mist, threaten by the panther prowling the jungle floor, and as the Republicans beat on their chest their egos grow from bloated narcissistic views of themselves Americans are sent home from work, or forced to scramble for day care and wonder if their Social Security check will be on time.
