The Limitations of the United States and its President

The Republican party used to follow the precepts of Henry Kissinger (right, pictured with former President Ronald Reagan) in foreign policy--preserving American national interest ran supreme and the country's limitations in foreign policy were taken into consideration. Nowadays, it seems Republicans, and often Democrats as well, don't seem to believe the U.S. possesses any such limitations.

Despite his empty-chair-talking tendencies, I still remain a fan of many of Clint Eastwood’s movies. And one of my favorite Eastwood scenes occurs in the Dirty Harry film Magnum Force where Clint observes “Man’s got to know his limitations.”

I only wish more people heeded this advice.

Most recently, the Romney campaign has been peddling the asinine idea that riots in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, etc.; the rise of the Muslim brotherhood and similar Islamist organizations; and the even the whole damn Arab Spring is the fault of (you guessed it) President Barack Obama.… [Read more]

Now that the Republican National Convention has come and gone like the Obama apparition in the Clint Eastwood chair, all political eyes turn to the Democratic National Convention. Bill Clinton is set to be the Keynote speaker and he’ll try to convince the world that he really doesn’t despise President Obama. We’ve all seen the new so-called meme spreading like wildfire ’round the net, an apparently doddering Clint Eastwood addressing an empty chair at last week’s 2012 Republican National Convention.

I guess I’m the last person in the world to find out that Clint Eastwood is no hero. He only plays one in the movies. He’s a great actor and a director, but not a good judge of politicians.
