Another Day, Another Massacre

Gun Violence - Another Day, Another Massacre

A week ago another lunatic armed to the teeth descended on the town of Santa Monica, California and the Santa Monica City College killing 5 innocent people and wounding scores of others. The gunman, wearing an assault style military uniform, carried an AR 15 assault rifle with over 1800 rounds of ammunition. He killed his father, brother and three innocent random people, shooting indiscriminately at drivers of cars and a city bus before he entered the school where he fired on anyone he saw.… [Read more]

Another Child Lost

Caroline

The AP carried a story about a 5-year-old boy accidentally shooting his 2-year-old sister to death in rural southern Kentucky. It seems that he had received the gun as a gift last year. The gun was a Crickett, a company that specifically makes guns, clothes and books for children. A little gun for a little kid and the little kid, who was used to shooting the little gun, picked it up and killed his little sister.… [Read more]

Just *what* is going on?

What's going on?

Richie Havens’ cover of “What’s Going On” is this week’s “Say It In Song” pick. Some of us feel it helps to have a moment of reflection and quiet contemplation when things appear to have gone crazy. The week brought a vote by the House of Representatives to invade citizens’ privacy on the one end, and a win by the National Rifle Association against all voices in support of sane gun control legislation on the other.… [Read more]

Consequences: We Will Not Forget

President Obama and Gabrielle Giffords

The last couple of days have been difficult for many Americans, especially those who have either lost a loved one or know someone who has been affected by gun violence. We watched as the United States Senate failed to pass background check legislation that could have helped curb the death, human destruction and financial costs of the one million plus men, women and children who have been senselessly killed by guns since 1968.… [Read more]

Saving the National Rifle Association, and Protecting Americans

nra-president-wayne-lapierre-6775wlapierre

Despite the armchair psychology, while Newtown school mass murderer Adam Lanza was probably rather off upstairs, National Rifle Association CEO and Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre isn’t a psychopath. He’s a million-dollar-a-year shill in a nice bespoke suit who seems to know which side of the toast the butter’s on.  His idea of a flannel outdoorsy shirt probably has a Brooks Brothers label.… [Read more]

Tears in Heaven

Tears in Heaven

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of all the victims of the senseless massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

“We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. And each time I learn the news I react not as a President, but as anybody else would — as a parent. And that was especially true today.[Read more]

Aftermath

Gun Control: STOP gun violence

It is less than a week after the shooting in Aurora, Colorado; the first victims are being buried, some wounded are leaving hospitals and gun sales are up over 40% since the murders. It seems, since this was such a high profile shooting, some people feel this will cause the Obama administration and other politicians go after their guns and since time maybe running out on their free access to weapons of mass destruction they are buying as many guns as they can.… [Read more]
