The quadrennial GOP convention is underway in Tampa, but there is a billboard welcoming the Party of No’s delegates to a Tampa where, inconveniently, the Mayor and city council are all Democrats. Many Americans were disgusted at Congressman Todd Akin’s outrageous claim that woman do not get pregnant when raped. He says he believes, doctors have told him women have a process of shutting down their reproductive system when being ‘legitimately’ raped and that’s the reason there are so few births by rape.
We all know what Congressman Akin was saying; we have deciphered ‘Republican Speak’ many times over when they use racist statements in describing Barack Obama.… [Read more]
What Romney getting the GOP presidential nod didn’t do, what the Paul Ryan veep pick didn’t do, what Donald Trump speaking at the RNC didn’t do, Todd Akin managed to do: Fire up the base . . . sort of. Only thing, when Todd Akin spoke the words, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” he fouled his own nest – not because what he said was shocking to the GOP (quite to the contrary), but because what he said framed what the GOP already thinks, packaged the GOP platform neatly into a horrifyingly ugly package for the country to see, and directed a spotlight into the sewer of extreme right-wing minds, including the mind of Paul Ryan, a man who teamed up with Akin to craft some pretty horrible legislation.… [Read more]

When the Mitt Romney campaign selected Paul Ryan as his running mate, it was the icing on the cake of Republican hypocrisy. For all of the much heated attention focused from the right on the “tyrannies” of social safety nets like welfare, healthcare, and social security, these actually may be the only things keeping the country from turning itself inside out with a full-fledged Chinese inspired communist overthrow.

I was horrified this week to see an advertisement for an actual product, a Barack Obama Punching Bag. Thinking fair is fair, I figured we needed a Mitt punching bag to even things out. So I made one.

Are you ready for the election cycle to end? When all is said and done, between each cycle we experience two years of debates, campaigns, SuperPACs, television commercials and online pop-up ads.
