Mainstream Media’s Viewers: Want More Cheese With that Whine?

If you’re a political junkie like me, you’d likely discover there is no such thing as an off-season for elections. Campaign planning begins years before we ever see the faces of contenders and their contributors. Some election cycles get more coverage and national exposure than others, which lead us to believe that elections happen less frequently than they do.… [Read more]

Remembering Lyndon B. Johnson Amidst Today’s GOP

On this day in 1908, Lyndon Baines Johnson was born. With all of the GOP’s documented anti-democratic voter suppression efforts underway across the country, this quote from President Johnson came to mind:

A man without a vote is a man without protection.

Reading this quote, on his birthday, made me think about Johnson’s legacy and how far we as a nation have come since his presidency.… [Read more]

Rick Scott: Screwing Florida Since 1997

Florida’s governor, Rick Scott, has always been a busy man. It took a lot of work, while he was CEO of Columbia/HCA, to screw taxpayers out of millions of dollars resulting from crooked Medicare billing practises. 2011: A Blurry Year In Review

This is the time of year when those ‘Year In  Review’ articles appear. The thinking behind (some of) it is that in order to move forward, we should take a look back so that we may see what what we’ve survived and examine the lessons learned along the way. Here’s a small slice of what we recall in no particular order (hey, it’s still holiday season so we’re perfectly fine with being a wee bit foggy from all that, um, holiday cheer).… [Read more]

The Right To Vote

Once again, what’s old is new again. Haven’t we as a nation been down this road before?  Why aren’t we tired of repeating the same old stuff; at this point in our nation’s history, shouldn’t we be moving forward and not looking backward to the days of dusty confederates and dirty tricks all the way up to the voting booth?… [Read more]
