What’s Good for the Goose…

Not long ago, a few brash and gutsy Democratic legislators stood up to Republican lawmakers who were trying to add insult to injury by forcing UAs on U.A.s- That would be “urinary analysis (also known as drug tests) on “Unemployed Americans.”  They went so far as to want those being screened for drug use to pay for the testing too!

Now, brought to you by one of those same “No, YOU pee in the cup”  state senators is proposed legislation that would have men who are prescribed Viagra for erectile dysfunction prove that it is out of  medical need,  not just a quick fix want. Ohio State Senator, Nina Turner (D, District 25) says she is genuinely concerned for the welfare of men who may not be aware of the risks involved with taking PDE-5 inhibitors, the drugs most commonly used to treat true impotence.

Ohio State Sen. Turner

In a recent press release, Senator Turner said she wanted to “guide men to make the right decision for their bodies.”  She further stated “The men in our lives, including members of the General Assembly, generously devote time to fundamental female reproductive issues — the least we can do is return the favor…It is crucial that we take the appropriate steps to shelter vulnerable men from the potential side effects of these drugs.”

You know the old saying goes: What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

In her own words Senator Turner said that  “By implementing more intensive screenings before prescribing the medication and requiring outpatient educational services, we can do more to prevent the potential side effects linked to PDE-5 inhibitors.  We must advocate for the traditional family, protect the sanctity of procreation, and ensure that all men using PDE-5 inhibitors are healthy, stable, and educated about their options — including celibacy as a viable life choice. This legislation will do just that.”

As an Ohio native, having grown up near her district, I felt an unmistakable thump of pride in my chest when I read how she has legislated her concern for men’s sexual health and well being.

We all know that when it comes to sex, men may very well need to be guided in the direction that is best for them.  It can be pretty difficult to concentrate if all the blood in your head has been miss directed for 4 or more hours.
