A former GOP operative turned activist for the release of former Democratic Alabama Governor Don Siegelman alleges that “The Architect” — Karl Rove — is picking out pretty little soaps for the guest bath with his latest boy toy, a skeezy little ex-convict named Ali A. Akbar.
In a letter published in a blog called “The Legal Schnauzer” (which is not exactly Time Magazine — but they have a copy of her letter) Dana Jill Simpson, a Rainsville, Alabama lawyer and former GOP operative who has appeared on “60 Minutes”, writes about how Rove used her in an attempt to catch the former Alabama governor in a gay tryst, which she finds hypocritical since she knows for a fact that Karl Rove has a taste for yummy young guys his own self.
This letter came to light after a recent bizarre appearance on the Greta Van Susteren show in which a babbling Rove seemed to take the host by surprise with his ranting and foaming about Simpson and an Obama campaign legal adviser, Bob Bauer. Among other untruthinesses, Rove said that Bauer represented Simpson during her congressional testimony. Simpson, in a letter to Bauer, apologizes for his having been dragged into the story. She includes a sworn and notarized affadavit that she has never met Bauer. She posits that Rove’s fear of being “outed” may have led to the bizarre rant.
About a week and a half ago, I was contacted by a political operative on the left who gave me a copy of Ali Akbar’s advertisement on an adult website. This advertisement suggested that the National Bloggers Club President, Mr. Akbar, was looking for bisexual sex with men who were Republican, political, and loved to discuss politics and philosophy and just wanted to hang out and chill with them.
The Schnauzer reports:
Simpson has an e-mail list on which she periodically shares inside information on politics and international affairs. The Akbar ad became a subject for discussion on the list. Andrew Kreig, of the D.C.-based Justice-Integrity Project, briefly referenced the Akbar angle in a major piece about Rove’s statements on the Van Susteren show. Kreig did not mention Akbar by name, but he did write the following:
In a similar vein, Rove critics active in the blogosphere have been claiming over the past week that one of Rove’s colleagues is an ex-con who might be outed soon in a sex scandal. This is part of the ongoing back-and-forth war of nerves that political activists wage continually against one another, with lawsuits and claims of outrage by each side. Among the latter are GOP members of Congress seeking Justice Department prosecutions of liberal opponents.
In this context, it made sense for Rove to deflect attacks by claiming to Fox listeners that he has been cleared from any suspicions by previous investigations and that critics are partisans allied unfairly against him.
Simpson says in her letter to Bauer, that she took the Akbar ad and used it to unearth information about his ties to powerful Republicans. One of those, the letter suggests, is Rove:
I took [the information] back to my blogging group and showed them that Karl had gotten himself a new friend from the information and evidence I had received and that this guy was alleged to be the possible new boy wonder and lover of Karl Rove.
Simpson tells Bauer that she has no concerns about Rove’s sexual preferences, but she is alarmed about his multiple false statements on Fox News:
It is believed by many of us that Karl thought we were going to use this for the benefit of President Obama, which was never the case. We do not care if [Rove] is bisexual or not and have many times ignored information that was given to us that suggested that he is. In fact, we find nothing wrong with being bisexual, as it means people just love both sexes at the same time. All of us are LBGTQ supporters, so we elected to not out this information on him. However, I think this is why he went berserk on national TV on Fox Network and said that I am a liar and have disappeared. He also lied when he said I had never testified under oath, as I have. It is Mr. Rove who insisted on executive privilege so as to not have to testify under oath about the Siegelman case.
Siegelman is currently in prison after having been convicted on corruption charges in 2006. Simpson continues to work for his release. And blah, blah, blah.
But what about Rove and Akbar? How does she make the jump from finding an ad from Akbar soliciting gay sex to rumors about Rove’s own predilection for same-sex shenanigans, to the certainty that Rove and Akbar were exchanging cocoa butter back rubs after long hot showers together?
Simpson, who was the victim of having her house burned down and being run off the road shortly after she testified, isn’t saying. We’ve tried to contact her, but she doesn’t seem all that interested in returning our calls or e-mails or Facebook postings.
So, we can not state for a fact that Karl Rove and Ali Akbar are exchanging loving glances from across the room at Young Republican gatherings.
And we CAN raise the question as to how a young, skinny black kid with a criminal record and a seedy background, who wasn’t even released from probation until May 2012, rose from the Tarrant County, Texas jail in 2007, to the top rung of the Young Republican hierarchy as founder and president of the National Bloggers Club., Inc., and enjoyed the friendship of conservative notables like the late Andrew Breitbart and continues that relationship with the slow moving, sluggish blowflies that continue to buzz around the decomposing corpse of the Breitbart web empire. We can prove he lied about his background. We can prove that his confederates are aware of his background and continue to support him.
The one thing we cannot prove, until Akbar either answers the question himself (and we have asked — and were blocked from his Twitter account), or Rove “comes clean” (so to speak) or Ms. Simpson tells us how she made the jump from Akbar’s “gay pals” ad to rumors about Rove to the two of them picking out china patterns, is that Karl Rove and Ali Akbar are “an item” (as they say).
But does it not seem a TEENSY BIT improbable that a skeezy little con goes from prison to the top of the Young Republican ladder in a matter of a couple years… without a Sugar Daddy or Mommy greasing the skids? Or, whatever else got greased?
