The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Republican John Boehner, was chosen by the Republican House caucus to be their leader for another two years, something he fought for tooth and nail — this despite some spirited competition. But Mr. Boehner has been very frustrated, indeed, over his negotiations with President Obama regarding reduction of the national debt via drastic cuts in spending rather than the raising of taxes on the embarrassingly wealthy.
But on January 6th, The Wall Street Journal published an interview in which Mr. Boehner — frustrated with President Obama’s opposition to cutting entitlements — said, “I need this job like I need a hole in the head.” We don’t understand how he can complain so vehemently about a job he’d fought just as vehemently to retain three days earlier. We think that he really does want the job but he needs a hole in the head, too — presumably to relieve his severe ICP or excess steam pressure. As you can see, we were happy to oblige with our trusty trephine.
