Campaign 2012: The Final Days

“Trying to reason with hurricane season.”

– Jimmy Buffett

This week, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, President Obama and Governor Chris Christie (R-N.J.) set their campaigning differences aside to deal with a catastrophic storm.  It didn’t take long for that Rightie klaxon Rush Limbaugh to blast Chris Christie for being too chummy with the President.… [Read more]

Joe Isuzu Shows Us Mitt’s Inner Romney

Do you remember this man? No? Well, he’s back anyway. And this time he’s showing us his inner, um, outer Mitt Romney. For those who don’t remember, “Joe Isuzu was a fictional spokesman used in a series of television advertisements for Isuzu cars and trucks. Joe Isuzu was a pathological liar who made outrageous and overinflated claims…”  Sounds very familiar.… [Read more]

President Obama Helps Disaster Victims While Romney Takes Cheap Shots

In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the contrast is striking. On the one hand, we have a President who’s cancelled campaign stops, and who’s calling on donations to the American Red Cross instead of his campaign. As reported by the Huffington Post: “On the campaign side, Obama halted his flood of fundraising emails on Sunday, and the campaign is now using its Twitter, Facebook and campaign pages to instead urge donations to the Red Cross storm relief.[Read more]

For Some, It’s Still Business and Politics as Usual

As city after city surveys the damage left in Hurricane Sandy’s path in the east coast, photos show the devastation of entire neighbourhoods covered in sand and slowly-receding water. Even more sad is the reported loss of lives to the storm; a sad fact from which some may never recover. According to MSNBC nearly 8 million remain without electric power — and though crews are working feverishly to restore and repair, it’s impossible to pinpoint when a sense of normalcy will return.… [Read more]

Democrats: It should be yours to lose….and now you might.

Nothing fries the circuits of the proud, ostensibly principled American progressive psyche to the same degree of fricassee as the Right (Troglodyte Division) in its fullest and finest bellow. From my safe, snowball throwing perch on the Canadian south coast, I read, mark, and inwardly digest the US presidential campaign detritus flung northward. I am constantly amazed at how readily Democrats rise to the bait cast so effortlessly by the baying conservative sportsmen.… [Read more]

Post-Election Legal Battle Lines Already Drawn

Throughout this election season many of us have heard numerous reports about charges of voter fraud, voter suppression tactics, Tagg Romney‘s ties to a company that owns Ohio voting machines, and even CEOs who have threatened employees with termination should Mitt Romney lose the upcoming presidential election. We’ve heard about the respective candidates’ poll numbers and who is gaining/losing support among women, the impact of the economy, and the weight of endorsements.… [Read more]

U.S. Economy Experienced 2% Growth in Third Quarter – Good for Nation, Not for GOP

A report today noted the nation’s recovery is still slow, but the most recent annualised figures for the period ended September 30th reveal that the economy experienced 2% growth — and that growth was more than originally projected.

Increased strength in the housing market and higher consumer spending resulting from a slight increase in consumer spending are contributing factors.… [Read more]

Today’s Retro GOP: Hey, Mr. Spaceman

In the 1950s, the science fiction genre was at its highest popularity with movies depicting aliens from other world coming to earth to take over the human population for various reasons ranging from food to slave labor, to the total annihilation of the human race.

My all-time favorite Sci-Fi movie is the classic, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.… [Read more]

Crazy Uncles: Motley Mourdock Missteps

It is almost hilarious watching Republicans giving up trying to contain the gaffes of their family crazy uncles inside the post-Tea Party “big tent.” Yeah, the ones who keep switching the television to the braying blabber of Fox News. Remember all-too-recently when “mainstream” Republicans tried to purge Rep. Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin (R-Mo.)? With Tea Party Senate wannabe Richard Mourdock (R-Ind.),… [Read more]

Romney’s Hypocrisy on Pakistan and Russia

Throughout most of his campaign, as well as during Monday’s presidential debate, Mitt Romney has taken strong, uncompromising stances on an array of countries for supporting terrorism or tyrannical actions and policies. Yet during Monday night’s debate, there was one country where Romney seemed to take a 360 on in regards to this “zero-tolerance” approach.

Despite illiberal policies and continued support for fanatical terrorist groups by factions of the government and military, Romney strongly warned against any type of weakening or severing of U.S.-Pakistani… [Read more]
