Our Team

Founder & Editor:

The Brooklyn Dame is a dame from the UK. She’s an ever-evolving student of the world and globe-hopper who currently calls Brooklyn, USA home. She’s an overly-degreed, prospective escapee from indentured servitude in corporate America who has an opinion about (nearly) everything. Of course, there are some things about which she’d have to try really hard to muster up an ounce of care; she’s worn out after she reads up on politics, finance and global events. You can follow her on Twitter.

Creative Contributor:

Mia Imani is a former mortgage banking employee who is recovering from injuries sustained during the housing collapse. She is a self-described political news junkie and likes to get her kicks and her fix writing for Borderless News & Views. Follow her on Twitter.

The Featured Writers:

Rich Abete, a healthcare professional, is currently preoccupied with scratching his way out of a three-year, self-imposed social exile. His exile produced one complete manuscript titled nod, the proud founding of “Jesus was a Democrat“, and the recent “Jesus was not a Republican“. The impetus for these endeavors was the result of being banned from writing nearly everywhere else on the internet, as many have found his writing too offensive. Thankfully, BNV is a place at which he may opine freely on the bankrupt morality of today’s GOP.

Like most who throw themselves into the unforgivable profession of writing, Angelle Petta has been putting pen to paper for as long as she can remember. So long, in fact, that it started as crayon to paper. When she is not writing, she is teaching theater; arguing with people about politics, religion or life in general; watching Jon Stewart or reading. She recently finished her first solo novel, [Un]Caged, and is presently seeking publication. Follow her on Twitter or read some of her writing.

Samantha Caputo is many things: A nail polish junkie, a Doctor Who fan, and a lover of kitties and New Beetles (but not those new New Beetles. They look weird). She’s been a Fed for over 24 years and knows a thing or two about life as a military wife. Underneath the conservative pencil skirts and high heels, Samantha is a Lefty rabble-rouser with opinions about most everything under the sun, except Thai food. The jury’s still out on that issue. You can follow her on Twitter.

Hailing from Hangu in Pakistan, Ernest Dempsey has a constant problem with social injustice, corruption, oppression, and unquestioned traditions. Now an independent writer at the Green Heritage News and other publications, he edits the journal Recovering the Self. He is a vegetarian and speaks for animal rights. His writing sometimes bites readers and gets straight to their heart. Dempsey is gradually stepping into the role of a publisher, though he is resisting it. Follow him on Twitter.

Chauncey Dennie is a sarcastic, egotistical iconoclast. His contrarian nature often leads him into logical circles that he playfully dismisses as philosophic rigor. If he had any sense at all he would take advantage of his mediocre skills, his high-priced education, and his hometown location in Washington DC to find a way to take over the world — or at least benefit more from capitalism. He’s an entirely-too-emotionally-open control freak whose favorite logical fallacies are straw man and red herring.

Harry Deshpande graduated at the bottom of the class in the bottom of university to gain a degree in commerce. After failing in numerous business ventures and managing to lose his shirt a few times, he managed to scam software companies in hiring him as a software programmer. His life’s desire, to quote his wife, is to excel in activities where there is no hope of earning any money whatsoever. You can find more writing by Harry on his blog.

Julie Driscoll believes “bi-partisanship” is highly overrated and that the loose term, in this political environment, means fence-riding and a willingness to jump to either side depending on the wind shift. Julie is a highly partisan, flaming, left-wing liberal – so far left the planet tilts. She’s partisan for a reason: she believes Republicans have no morals, ethics or compassion, and any pretense at having any of the above is nothing but false-flagging. Endless debates with soulless Republicans led her to decide that she’s done, done, done being a ‘jerk whisperer’.

Courtney Eastone often feels like the lone liberal living in the heart of conservative America. After years of quietly playing Mommy, she is now taking her thoughts to the keyboard in hopes of soothing her frustrated mind.

Monique Gamble cut her progressive teeth streaming conservative talk radio just after college. She believes passionately that modern conservatism is out to ruin the 21st century, and is doing her part to prod the masses and to wake the proverbial sleeping dog. Monique enjoys debate, and will admit when she’s wrong. In the above case, however, don’t waste your breath. But do read. And do share your reactions. Monique respects your emotions. Also, Monique appreciates good vodka, exceptional meals, and great conversation. Follow her on Twitter.

James Michael Haitchwai is a young urchin from the District of Corruption’s punk underworld who lives on nobody’s terms but his. Life so far has been a whirlwind roller coaster ride through delinquency, questionably esoteric/anti-authority beliefs, and some awesome music. Deep down James is a sappy bleeding-heart humanist with a relentlessly curious mind. He loves making new friends, but he loves vegan junk food even more, so make with the faux-Peanut Butter Cups for a faster response. You can also follow him on Tumblr and Facebook.

Mikki Israel is an American-Israeli or Israeli-American, depending on the circumstances. Mikki currently resides in Israel but comes to the U.S. whenever Israelis become too annoying, then returns after the Americans have become a headache.  She is a freelance writer for whatever media outlet is brave enough to print the news — minus the spin.

After spending a 21st century childhood like any other, exiled to the deranged annals of the internet, Thom Konefka stepped outside to twiddle his thumbs and await the coming revolution with his pen firmly mounted onto his rifle. A university student, Thom has recently stepped into the blogosphere to, allegedly, “make a name for himself” and to give some validity to his strange talent: the ability to turn so blue in the face of ignorance and apathy that his face takes on a positively purple hue.

Leftside Annie is proud to be a latte-sipping, arugula-munching, foul-mouthed godless liberal hippie piewagon and feminazi with a Ph.D. in Snarkology. Her mission is to put the truth out there in an entertaining and not-for-the-faint-of-heart kind of way. Be advised that when she says “entertaining,” it encompasses (but is not limited to) these terms:  WTF?, OMG!, LOL, and even occasionally %^#$%#$!! Oh, and if she can piss off teabaggers in the process, well, that’s a bonus. She can be found here and on Twitter.

The Small Wonder didn’t seem to provide enough stimulus for now comedian, radio personality, and novelist Christine Meehan.  Her account of fleeing America to haphazardly stumble through Europe and Africa, The Sign on My Forehead, is currently seeking publication.  Upon return to the States, Christine initially dove into domestic politics, but her insatiable appetite for large scale affect has brought her to the Big Apple; she has chosen to publicly humiliate herself on stage when she isn’t frantically patching the holes in her boots. Follow her on Twitter.

Tara Meehan has been a freelance copywriter since 2004 and a proud liberal ever since watching her mom pull the voting lever for Walter Mondale in 1984. In 2008 she froze her ass off watching the Obama Inauguration, but the “hindsight is 20/20″ cynic in her often wonders whether she would have been better off staying at home with a bottle of wine. Still, Tara is a lover of blue politics and the little blue birdie, Twitter. She has been published on numerous sites including iMediaConnection.com and eLearnMag.com.

Holli Powell lives on a little blue island in the middle of her red state. When she’s not working as the finance director of a non-profit, she loves helping others realize their dreams through her company, Thrive Consulting, LLC, a bookkeeping, tax preparation, financial consulting and coaching superstore. In her “spare time”, she is trying to raise a confident and creative preschooler. If you see something on StuffWhitePeopleLike, it’s probably something Holli likes too. You can find her on Twitter and Facebook.

Michelle Quevedo is a Geek who holds interests, with just enough expertise to become dangerous to herself, in areas of technology, politics, women’s issues, health and food. Not necessarily in that order. Her passion is to have open dialogue on all issues and subjects with people from all walks of life. She is known to travel the world to gather knowledge and to connect with people on the heart level. She firmly believes that life is full of wonder and is truly magical, which makes her quest for knowledge an adventure. Tweet her.

Bill Schmalfeldt is a liberal humorist of long standing (although mostly sitting), Bill is a former writer for the National Institutes of Health who retired after 12 years battling Parkinson’s disease. Now he rights the wrongs of the right wing by writing, not only here but at his blogs — Deep Brain Media and The Truth’s Companion — and as one of, maybe, five liberal writers at the hugely conservative Examiner.com.  Oh, he’s an author, too. He lives in Maryland with his wife and a two head of dog. Follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

When Katie Sluiter isn’t herding cats…er, teenagers…as a high school English/Spanish teacher, she is ducking Tea Partiers in her little conservative West Michigan town. She has both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in English and has dabbled in teaching writing at the college level. She can also be found writing at Sluiter Nation and neglecting all the other stuff in her life on twitter. Her writing has been featured on BlogHer.com, Studio30Plus.com, and WriteOnEdge.com

HunnerWoof is a recovering Mormon living in the Jello capital of the world.  As a progressive marooned in a state of regressives, he spends his time trying (and failing) to ignore the insanity around him. And drinking beer. Lots and lots of good, local beer. You can read more about his adventures here and follow him on Twitter. His writing has also been featured on Studio30Plus.com

Artist in Residence:

Barbara Broido was discovered to have a “bad attitude” early on by teachers, which she channels through a variety of mediums including colored pencils, water colors and ceramic figures. She was discovered early on by Jim Henson who chained her to a drawing board where she produced Muppet sketches and figurines and earned herself an Emmy nomination. Despite opportunities to become a huge success, she manages to elude fame. She lives with her hippie husband Jeff outside Woodstock, NY where they pose for tourist pictures when moved to do so.
